It has been almost 22 years since the state of Uttarakhand was formed, but even today, people are deprived of necessary facilities in the international border region and hilly areas. There is one such village situated on the Nepal-India border of the Champawat district. The name of this village is Thapliyal Kheda which is surrounded by the Nepal border on three sides and Tanakpur Dam of India on one side. The villagers have to depend on Nepal for essential facilities. There is an election for the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in the coming few days, but the people here have given up hope from all political parties and leaders.
