'We Make Strong Leather Chappals But Our Livelihood Becomes Weak'
The Arunthathiyar community that lives in Perambur area of North Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has been making hand-made leather chappals for more than three decades. People from the community say that the entry of big companies in their field was the beginning of the crisis. The implementation of demonetisation and GST have worsened their livelihood situation with the pandemic-induced lockdown coming as the latest hit.
