Hearing the constitutionality of Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code, the Supreme Court has ordered that it expects that the Centre and states will not register an FIR, investigate or harass anyone under Section 124A while the matter is sub judice. On the one hand, the order has been described as historic but on the other, there is a lot of confusion regarding it. Several experts have said that the order needs to be read carefully. Academic and legal scholar professor Faizan Mustafa clears the confusion in a discussion with Newsclick.
