Why Forest Dwellers are Being Evicted?

The court’s decision is going to hurt some of India’s most vulnerable communities.

On February 13, the Supreme Court ordered state governments to evict over 10 lakh, forest-dwelling people. This could go up to as high as 20 lakh households countrywide. The affected families had filed claims to forest land under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, which were rejected. The court’s decision is going to hurt some of India’s most vulnerable communities. And all of this, owing to the Modi government ’s apathy towards tribals and their livelihoods.
