According to a government order, semi-wholesale and retail shops in Koyambedu vegetable market in Chennai will not be allowed to function hereafter. The traders and workers staged a protest in front of the market management committee office, demanding that the market be exempt or that a blanket ban be avoided. They say that closing the market again will result in endless hardships to them, since they are still unable to recover from the country-wide lockdown last year. Newsclick presents a ground report.
