Why TN Hydrocarbon Exploration Is Dangerous
The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) has announced the opening of international bidding of 11 blocks for hydrocarbon exploration in the fifth round. The bidding will be open till March 18, 2020. The inland and ultra deep water region in eastern coast of Tamil Nadu is also being auctioned. This includes the Cauvery delta region, the so called rice bowl of Tamil Nadu. The farmers and the fishermen community have been protesting against this for a long time. Nityanand Jayaraman, who has studied the impact of hydrocarbon projects in the delta region and has previously fought for people's rights, talks to NewsClick about this issue.
