Regulations Around Sale of Meat: Business or Politics?

Recently the Gurgaon municipal corporation issued a directive asking all meat shops to remain shut on Tuesdays. Another directive by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation has asked shops and restaurants to clearly state the kind of meat they are serving; halal or jhatka. Why is the government so interested in controlling what we eat and when we eat it?
