It’s been almost three months since the Northeastern state of Manipur has been on the boil due to ethnic clashes, but the Narendra Modi government is still not allowing a long duration discussion in Parliament on the issue, as demanded by the united Opposition. The Opposition also wants a statement by the Prime Minister, who has so far not spoken on the violence, in both the Houses.

Once again, the Monsoon Session seems headed for a washout, with the government pushing for a short duration discussion and the Opposition sticking to it guns and demanding suspension of business under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha, followed by a discussion in which all parties can speak.

Meanwhile, violence continues, and the government continues to introduce Bills amid the din, turning away from the echoes of Manipur's violence reaching some neighbouring states, such as Mizoram.
