Bihar: BJP Leader Slams Nitish’s ‘Rule of Law’ Claim After Failing to get Justice for Dead Daughter

Vineeta Mishra, vice president of state women’s wing of BJP, alleged in the past 5 years, she met the CM and the DGP repeatedly, but to no avail.

Patna: A senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) woman leader has been running from pillar to post for the past five years to seek justice for her daughter in Bihar, where the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government, headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar repeatedly claims sushasan (good governance) and rule of law (kanoon ka raj).

Vineeta Mishra, vice president of state women’s wing of BJP, said she had met the CM and the Director General of Police (DGP) to seek justice for her daughter, who died by suicide after alleged dowry harassment, but till date nothing has been done.

Bihar mein hamari sarkar rahte bhi paanch saalon mein nyay nahi mila hai”(Despite BJP-led NDA government in Bihar, we have got  no justice so far), she said.

Mishra alleged her newly married daughter, Shardha, died by suicide in 2016 at her in-laws’ house after being harassed, tortured and instigated to end her life. She said she had filed a written police complaint (FIR) at Gandhi Maidan police station under Section 306, 304B, 34 and others of the Indian Penal Code against Shardha’s husband Sumit Saurav, and his other family members. In her complaint, she alleged that it was a murder for dowry.

Upset over the failure of police to arrest the main accused, Mishra, on Thursday met Bihar Law Minister Pramod Kumar, a senior BJP leader at BJP Sahyog Karyakram' (Cooperation Programme) in the party's Patna office and demanded justice for her daughter. This programme was recently launched by the party to counter Nitish Kumar’s much-hyped Janata Darbar.

“I have lost hope for justice but today I met Law Minister Pramod Kumar and informed him that police have failed to take action in the case till date. Police have not arrested the named accused. I have urged him to intervene,” she said.

Mishra said she had submitted a petition to the Law Minister. “In my petition, I have informed him that I am running from one place to another to seek justice. I had stated that a charged sheet was filed in the local court in Patna in 2019 but it is pending in the court of a sub judge,” she said.

Mishra also accused a senior advocate, who is also president of the Patna High Court Advocate Association, for “using his influence” to delay the case in the court as the accused were his “close relatives”.

Sounding distraught, she said: “I have been with BJP since the past 20 years but under the BJP-led NDA government in the state, there is no justice for women, who are being neglected and ignored by the government when it comes to genuine justice. “

According to Mishra, she had met the CM thrice and registered her complaint that nothing has been done in the case, but the CM’s office repeatedly said that her complaint had been sent to the DGP.

“The administrative officers, including police, hardly listen to us. Even I am facing difficulty to register my complaint with the police.I am helpless”, she said.

Mishra’s words have exposed the ground reality of rule of law in the state.

Last month, three daughters of a Muslim woman, who was allegedly lynched by a mob in their village in Samastipur district, demanded justice and a judicial inquiry monitored by the Patna High Court, accusing the police of inaction following its failure to arrest all the accused in the case.

Sunawwar Khatoon, 35, a teacher in a government-run school, was mercilessly beaten to death by a mob in broad daylight in the village of Adharpur in Samastipur. However, neither have the accused been arrested nor has her family been compensated for loss of property after the mob set fire to their belongings. The three daughters of the woman continue to live in fear after they witnessed the barbaric incident last month.
