Chennai Metro Rail Workers Forced to Protest Due to Contractualisation Policies

The protest call was given on Monday after the management terminated eight employees including the office bearers of the workers’ union.

The permanent employees of the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (CMRL) were forced to refrain from working on Monday evening. The contractualisation policies of the corporation have prompted the workers to go for unionisation. They have been struggling to ensure security of their employment for the last six months. An immediate protest call was given on Monday when the management terminated eight employees including the office bearers of the workers’ union.
