Five years ago, Rohith Vemula, a young dalit scholar at the Hyderabad Central University, took his life on January 17, 2016. His death shook the conscience of the entire nation and led to massive protests against caste discrimination, which continue to resonate in th country till today, particularly in higher education institutions.
