08 Mar 2021
Interviewed by Aparna Mahiyaria Produced by Newsclick & ICF Production,

International Women's Day is being celebrated amid complex political and social complexities this year. At a time when the trauma inflicted by the government and a Manuwadi-Patriarchal society continues unabated on women, on the other hand, women have demonstrated excellent participation and leadership in nationwide struggles for social consciousness and change, the defense and consistency of the Constitution.

On the occasion, Aparna from the ICF spoke to Jagmati Sangwan. Jagmati has been associated with progressive and women's movements for many decades and has played an important role in the grassroots struggle against casteist violence by Khap Panchayats in Haryana. In this interaction Jagmati spoke on "love-jihad", the increase in violence against women and Dalit community, the impact of economic and social life courtesy the neoliberal policies of the budget, the major demands of the women's movement and on many other issues.
