Even though it has been seven decades since the death of Mahatma Gandhi's killer, Nathuram Godse, his name and identity are still at the centre of the Indian political discourse. While, on the one hand, actor-turned-politician Kamal Hasaan referred to Godse as independent India's first ever terrorist, on the other hand, BJP candidate and terror blast-accused Pragya Thakur has recently gone on record and called Godse a true patriot. This has been on the receiving end of criticism by many, including the BJP itself, which distanced itself from Thakur’s statement.
