For Access to Employment, Healthcare, and Education, Out-migration from Hills Continues in Uttarakhand
It has been 22 years since the formation of the separate state of Uttarakhand. After its formation, people were hopeful that this would lead to prosperity in the hills. However, the region is becoming desolate – contrary to the expectations. The Uttarakhand government has admitted in its several reports that many villages in the state have turned into ghost towns. A NewsClick team went to one such village – Khola – which is close to Garhwal’s Srinagar city to find out that most of its former residents have migrated out.
