Bhopal: Niwari, the only district that had been free of COVID-19 in Madhya Pradesh so far, reported a positive case on Friday. With this, the virus has spread to all 52 districts of the state.
State capital Bhopal once again recorded 62 new positive cases in a span of 24 hours. Most of these cases are being reported in families. The state's tally on Friday stood at 10,505 positive cases and 440 deaths.
Indore accounts for 40% of total cases in the state with 3,972 cases and 164 deaths, followed by Bhopal with 2,210 cases and 93 deaths. Ujjain is at the third spot with 66 deaths and 769 positive cases.
Burhanpur recorded 381 cases while Neemuch reported 358 cases. Khandwa accounts for 276 positive cases and Khargone's coronavirus tally stands at 212. Jabalpur recorded 298 cases, Dhar 132, and Gwalior has recorded 249 cases. Morena’s tally stands at 140, while Mandsaur has recorded 96 cases.
The tribal-dominated districts Barwani, Chhindwara, Dindori, Balaghat, Jhabua, Tikarmgarh, Umaria, Alirajpur and others have also reported a sharp jump in pandemic cases recently.
Addressing reporters on Friday, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan raised concern over the growing cases of Covid-19 in villages and tribal districts. He said, “904 Covid-19 patients have been found in 440 villages of Madhya Pradesh. To tackle this threat, Rs 275 crore have been allocated for Covid management in villages.”
MP Govt Imposes Covid-19 Tax on Petroleum Products
The state government has imposed an additional tax of Rs 1 on diesel and petrol prices to tackle the loss incurred during the Covid-19 lockdown. This is expected to help the government earn Rs 200 crore from petrol and Rs 370 crore from diesel.
The government has lost revenue of nearly Rs 14,00 crore in petrol and diesel in the past three months. The tax will be imposed from June 13. Now, one litre of petrol will cost Rs 81. 42 and that of diesel Rs 72.56. The petroleum companies have been increasing prices of petrol and diesel in the past four days.
