The first wave of floods hit Assam in early June this year, and have now affected nearly twenty-five lakh people. Baten Ali, his wife and 4 children are struggling as their home is flooded and they have nowhere to seek shelter. Villages and embankments in Barpeta have received little to no help from the government in putting up temporary shelters and camps for those worst affected by floods. In times of Covid, the people struggling for food due to lockdown now also struggle for shelter and safety.
