New Delhi: The CBI searched the premises of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik on Thursday morning. The search has been done in connection with a corruption case related to Kiru Hydro Power Project of Jammu and Kashmir. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also searched Malik's residence and office in Delhi.

The central agency also raided 30 locations in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the latest report, this case is related to alleged corruption in awarding a civil work contract worth Rs 2,200 crore in 2019 for the proposed Kiru Hydro Power Project on Chenab River in Kishtwar.

In its FIR related to corruption in awarding the contract for the civil works package of the Kiru hydropower project, the CBI had said that guidelines related to e-tendering were not followed.

It was also alleged that in the 47th board meeting of CVPPPL (Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd), it was decided that the contract would be re-allocated through e-tendering along with reverse auction. But after the cancellation of the ongoing tender process, it was not implemented and the decision of the previous meeting was reversed in the 48th board meeting.

Malik, a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had alleged that when he was Governor of the state, he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to approve two files related to the project. He was J&K Governor from August 23, 2018 to October 30, 2019.

The former J&K Governor has been in the news of late for questioning the circumstances that led to the Pulwama attack prior to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections that killed 44 CRPF jawans, as well as vocally backing the ongoing farmers protests.

According to a post in X, Malik said: “I have been ill for the last 3-4 days and am admitted to the hospital. Despite this, my house is being raided by the dictator through government agencies. My driver and my assistant are also being raided and harassed unnecessarily. I am a farmer's son, I will not be afraid of these raids. I am with the farmers- Satyapal Malik (former governor)."
