Maha Postpones Rent Collection; Case Doubling Rate Stands at 6.2 Days in India

With the nationwide lockdown in place and number of cases of novel coronavirus infection on an upward trajectory, Maharashtra government attempts to bring some relief to at least the tenants living in the state – postponing the rent collection from them for at least three months.
According to the notice, issued by the Maharashtra State Housing Department on Friday, during this period, no tenant should be evicted from the rented house due to non-payment of rent.
Maharashtra is among the states worst-hit by the novel coronavirus outbreak, with highest number of confirmed cases and deaths due to COVID-19. On Thursday, it also became the first state to cross the 3000-mark of confirmed cases of the viral infection.
Meanwhile, health ministry officials, in its daily briefing on Friday, informed that the doubling rate of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in the country currently stands at 6.2. As many as 19 states/UTs which includes Kerala, Delhi among others have a doubling rate less than the national average.
Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry also confirmed that the growth factor of the COVID-19 cases have declined by 40 per cent. Growth factor is the proportion of new cases in a day to that of the new cases on its previous day.

The death toll due to COVID-19 in the country rose to 452.

Gujarat’s Death Toll Jumps to 38; Cases Cross 1000-mark

Health Officials on Friday confirmed the deaths due to COVID-19 in Gujarat, which has increased to reach 38, after two more persons succumbed to the deadly novel coronavirus.

Govt Removes Curbs on Exports of Paracetamol-made Formulations

The Centre on Friday removed restrictions on exports of formulations made from Paracetamol amid outbreak of Covid-19, PTI reported.

However, restrictions on exports of Paracetamol active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) will continue, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

The government on March 3 had announced restrictions the export of 26 pharmaceutical ingredients and medicines, including paracetamol.

MP’s Indore to Get 50,000 Rapid Test Kits: Report

With highest number of deaths due to COVID-19, Madhya Pradesh’s Indore will get 50,000 rapid test kits that arrived in India from China on Thursday, the Indian Express reported.
According to the report, the number of positive cases in Indore touched 842 on Thursday and the toll climbed to 47.
The consigned sent by China containing 650,000 kits, including Rapid Antibody Tests and RNA Extraction Kits, reached India on Thursday.

Delhi: Shaheen Bagh Among New COVID-19 Hotspots

Shaheen Bagh area in New Delhi is now among the new containment zones that have been identified by the Delhi government, taking the total number of such zones in the national capital to 60 now, according to Business Today.
Services like home delivery of essential items and medical emergencies are allowed in these zones as mentioned by the Home Ministry guidelines issued on April 15, added the report.
Earlier, Shaheen Bagh came into prominence as the symbolic epicenter of the anti CAA-NRC-NPR protests that were spread across the country.

Delhi: Private Schools to Charge Monthly Tuition Fee, Mandated to Pay Salaries to Staff

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday mandated the private schools in the national capital pay salaries to both contractual and full-time staff during the lockdown period.
The private schools are allowed to charge only monthly tuition fee during the lockdown, he said, adding that they are not allowed to increase fees during the same period.
Sisodia also added that no student should be restricted from attending online classes.

Uttar Pradesh Universalise Public Distribution System

In a tweet on Friday, by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office, it was declared that food and ration will be provided to all whether or not one has a ration card or an Aadhaar card. The same has been directed by the UP CM Yogi Adityanath to the officials, the tweet added.

Deposit in ‘PM Cares Fund’, Download ‘Arogya Sethu App’: Jharkhand HC Grants Conditional Bail to Former MP, 5 Others

Jharkhand High Court granted bail on Friday to a former BJP MP and five others on the conditions that they shall deposit an amount of Rs.35,000 each in the PM Cares Fund and download the ‘Arogya Setu App’, reported Live Law.
The judgment came in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country, also resulting into the existence of both, PM Cares Fund, to render financial assistance and Arogya Setu App, a technological attempt in contact tracing.
Despite the objectives, however, questions have been raised by activists and experts on both, for lack of transparency in the former and of the potential surveillance danger posed by the later.

An official on Friday said that another person died of COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir. A 75-year-old man, who hailed from Sopore, passed away, taking the death toll in the UT to reach five.

Health Ministry Presser: Growth Factor in COVID-19 Cases Declined by 40 per cent

Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry, confirmed on Friday that the growth factor of the COVID-19 cases have declined by 40 per cent. Growth factor is the proportion of new cases in a day to the new cases on its previous day.
Since April 1, the nation averaged a growth factor of 1.2, which according to Agarwal was averaging 2.1 in the period of March 15 to the end of that month.

Maharashtra State Housing Department on Friday issued a notice to landlords/house owners in the state to postpone rent collection by at least three months from the tenants.
According to the notice, tweeted by Maharashtra Chief Minister Office’s handle, during this period, no tenant should be evicted from the rented house due to non-payment of rent.

Uttar Pradesh Reports 41 Fresh Cases; State Count Jumps to 846

Uttar Pradesh reported 41 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state to 846, news agency PTI reported official as saying
The state has so far recorded 13 deaths -- the maximum five from Agra, two from Moradabad and one each from Lucknow, Kanpur, Basti, Meerut, Bulanshahr and Varanasi, health department sources said.
“The number of coronavirus positive cases in the state is 846 in 48 districts. Of the total cases, 74 patients have been treated and discharged,” Principal Secretary Heath Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters.
He said 3,200 samples were collected and 2,962 tests were conducted on Thursday.
