Dalit Youth Murdered Over Love Affair
Muthiah, a 19-year-old youth of Arunthathiyar Community (Scheduled Caste), who was in love with a woman from the Nadar (Backward Caste) community, was allegedly murdered by members of her community. The couple was from Tisayanvilai in Tirunelveli district. The district administration and police are accused of covering up the angle of honour killing by presenting a different angle to the case and arresting 3 youth. The CPI(M) and the Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front (TNUEF) have accused the state government of remaining silent over the incident in an apparent move to cover up the issue.
