Dwindling Match Industry Faces Another Crisis
More than 2 lakh people are employed in the wooden match industry and 75% of them are in Sivakasi, Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu. A majority of these workers are women.. They are paid less and there is no adequate support from the government. According to the industrialists, the sector is already facing collapse due to demonetisation and inappropriate implementation of GST, favouring the corporates.
