Elections 2019: MP to Go to Polls in 4 Phases for 29 Seats, 5.5 Crore Voters to Cast Votes

Bhopal: The Election Commission of India on Sunday, March 10 announced the polling dates for 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. The state will go to polls in four phases on April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19, while the counting for all the constituencies will be held on May 23, 2019.
Out of 29, 10 seats are reserved for Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes.
With the announcement of polls, the model code of conduct has come into force and it will be effective till May 27, when the overall election process will be completed as per the schedule issued by EC, chief electoral officer of Madhya Pradesh, VL Kantha Rao said on Sunday evening.
“This time all the vehicles carrying the poll duty officials as well as the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be monitored by GPS. Adequate number of VVPAT and other machines are available in the state for voting. Like last assembly elections we would be publishing voter slips which would be provided to each and every voter, it will also be printed in Braille,” Rao said.
“In the 2009 parliamentary elections, the voting percentage was 51 per cent, in 2014 it increased to 61 per cent. This time we have given a target of 75 per cent voter turnout to district election officers,” Rao said.

The State Election Commission has warned political parties to refrain themselves from using any kind of propaganda related to the army during the poll campaign.
As many as 5.5 crore voters of the state will cast their votes in 65,000 polling booths. The EC is deploying five lakh employees for the election.
“State government had informed that officials posted for three years or those who are posted in their home districts have been transferred. We have asked the state government to ensure that those who have been transferred join duties immediately without any further delay,” he added.
“A budget of Rs 550 crore has been provided for the elections during the coming financial year,” he added.
Chhindwara Assembly By-Polls on April 29
The by-elections for the Chhindwara assembly constituency which has been vacant after Congress MLA Deepak Saxena’s resignation, will also be held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections on April 29.
