Girish Karnad: A Life of Cultural Resistance

On Monday, June 17, hundreds of people gathered at the India International Centre (IIC), Delhi, to pay tribute to Girish Karnad. The renowned playwright, actor, and activist passed away on June 10 at the age of 81.

A programme was organised by IIC, SAHMAT, Raza Foundation, Indian Writers Forum, and Jana Natya Manch (Janam) in Delhi on Monday, June 17 to pay tribute to Girish Karnad. Ashok Vajpeyi, TM Krishna, MK Raina, Anuradha Kapur and K Satchidanandan spoke about Karnad's life of cultural resistance. The programme was chaired by Githa Hariharan. Janam read from Karnad's plays--"Tuglaq", "Hayavadana", and "The Dreams of Tipu"-- in both Hindi and English.
