Haryana Farmers and Agri Workers to Intensify Protests Against Farm Laws from Nov 1

Amid the growing resentment of farmers over the three controversial farm laws, farmers’ organisations from Haryana have decided to launch another round of agitation from November 1. Along with farmers’ organisations across the state, agricultural workers’ organisations will also form part of the protest series under the banner of All India Kisan Sangarsh Coordination Committee.

“Kisan and agricultural workers’ outfits will launch campaigns throughout Haryana from November 1 and we will continue the campaigns. Then we will hold a protest dharna at CM camp office at Karnal on November 9,” said Inderjit Singh, state vice-president of AIKSCC.

The decision was taken in a joint meeting of more than 50 participants belonging to 34 organisations to intensify the ongoing protest against the three legislations affecting agriculture and livelihood of farmers and agricultural workers.

The meeting held on October 19 was attended by Krishna Prasad of All India Kisan Sabha, Prem Singh Gahlawat, Yogender Yadav along with others. Satyawan Krishna Prasad strongly condemned the framing of false criminal cases against farmers and leaders of the agitation in various parts of the state and demanded withdrawal of these cases. It was also decided to make preparations for ‘Delhi gherao’ on November 26 and 27.

The AIKSCC had earlier given a call for “Delhi Chalo” on November 26 and 27. The farmers and agricultural workers along with trade unionists and others from across the country will take part in the protest against the Centre for legislating three farm bills that will open up the agriculture sector to the free-market forces.

Several states across the country, and especially Haryana and Punjab, have been witnessing sustained protests by farmers against the newly introduced laws – Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion & Facilitation) Ordinance 2020, The Farmers’ (Empowerment & Protection) Assurance and Farm Service Ordinance 2020 and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 – which were passed in September and signed into laws by President Ram Nath Kovind on September 27.

Meanwhile, the protesting farmers are gaining more support each day. “The farmers across the state are angry about the farm laws which ultimately help the corporates. Almost all MLAs and MPs of BJP in the state have been greeted with black flags by farmers,” Indrajith Singh said, explaining the anger of farmers’ over the anti-farmer acts. 

Singh also added that the anger of farmers will also affect the result of the upcoming by-election in Baroda on November 3. Ahead of the by-election, Parminder Dhull—a two time MLA from Julana Assembly seat- has quit BJP in protest against the anti-farmer laws. He said that he would campaign against the anti farmers' policies of the BJP in the upcoming Baroda bypoll.
