Indonesia, COVID and Deglobalisation of Food Systems

Indra Lubis of the Indonesia Political Economy Association, discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on small farmers and informal workers in Indonesia. He explains the government's response to tackle the food crisis by setting up a food estates as part of the National Strategic Project. Presenting a critique of the Indonesian government's 'one size fits all' plan, Lubis points out that a more fundamental change in the food production system is required. This can only be achieved through a thorough agrarian reforms programme.
