The decision to hold the Mahakumbh amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the arguments in support of the festival being put forward by those in power just shows their lack of sensitivity towards this tragic situation. Further, holding eight phased elections for a 296-member Assembly in West Bengal is an extension of this insensitivity which has been displayed by the ruling forces time and again.
