Lack of Safety and Health for Labourers in Kadi Town, Gujarat

This workers' testimonial is a part of a panel discussion that was organised by Prayas in collaboration with Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung on work conditions of industrial workers around Kadi Town in North Gujarat. In this episode, workers are talking about the importance of unionisation in the Kadi town area. Cotton Ginning and its ancillary oil crushing solvent plants are some of the main agro-based industries in Gujarat. In fact, Gujarat has the largest number of these industries in India. Overworked labour force, unsafe working conditions leading to very high morbidity, unofficial workers' muster rolls, unhygienic living conditions and lack of any allowances/benefits  are the major issues faced by the workers.
