Lawaypora Encounter: PDP Leader Mehbooba Mufti Demands an Impartial Probe
Three youths from South Kashmir were killed in a "staged" encounter in South Kashmir's Lawaypora area on December 30. While the security forces maintain that the young men were militants, People's Democratic Party leader Mehabooba Mufti has demanded that bodies of the young men be handed over to their family members, while asking for an impartial probe. In a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Mufti said such incidents brought "disrepute" to the armed forces and are "a grave violation" of human rights.
