SM Haider, an Uttar Pradesh-based lawyer, has approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) "seeking registration of an FIR) against the private school teacher accused of making communal incidents and asking her students to slap a fellow Muslim student.

The incident occurred in the Muzaffarnagar district of UP. The accused in the case has been identified as Tripta Tyagi, and the school in question is the Neha Public School.

Rizvi's complaint asks for an FIR to be filed against Tyagi under sections 153A, 295A, 298, 323, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, Rizvi has also sought compensation for the victim and his "admission to a school in Delhi or any other district at the state's expense."

"The video, which was circulated on social media all across the globe not only impacts the image and reputation of our country but also cast a blow on the secular fabric of the country, which is already dented considerably because of similar unscrupulous elements whose intent is only to ridicule and mock the country and the administration, with a view to further their nefarious intent of creating a faction amongst the various religious sects which hitherto lived amidst comity and brotherhood," the complaint states.

Furthermore, the complaint argues that the actions of the accused teacher in this matter can potentially lead to a "rift amongst communities creating a riotous situation in the state and the country, which may have bigger, larger ramifications."

Rizvi has also called for an investigation by an independent agency alleging that the SSP Muzaffarnagar tried to "cover up the issue".

Talking about SSP's statement, the complaint states, "This statement is not only a sham but a misstatement which is factually also incorrect and goes on to prove that the District Police of Muzaffarnagar would not be in a position to carry out a free and fair investigation."
