“Modi definitely did not encourage media, and did not like uncomfortable questions.”

Speaking to Newsclick, senior journalist Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay says that whenever there is an authoritarian leader at the helm of the affairs, the media is the first one to get squeezed, restricted and throttled.  He feels that it also depends on the health and vivaciousness of the democracy of the country. Modi was never a big admirer of unrestricted freedom for press, asserts Mukhopadhyay, and adds, “He did not like uncomfortable questions.”
