Mumbai's Dabbawalas: Of Hunger and Desperation after the Lockdown

Since 1890, nearly two lakh Mumbaikars have received their lunch boxes from Mumbai's Dabbawala. However, this iconic symbol of Mumbai's steely resilience is on the verge of extinction post COVID-19 

"Things were running smoothly before the pandemic. Earlier, I would deliver around 40 dabbas and would earn Rs. 20,000 a month. But now we are facing immense difficulties; I am unable to provide food to my children and don't know when our suffering will end," says Vitthal Raundhal, a dabbawala from Mumbai.
