The BJP's own allies in Punjab and Haryana are opposed to the June 5 ordinances on agriculture that were promulgated  without consulting states. The government's own objective to double incomes of farmers will not be achieved with the continuation of the present set of policies. Schemes that are meant for poverty alleviation are funded by taxes paid by the poor, argues Ajay Vir Jakhar, Chairman, Bharat Krishak Samaj, who also heads the Punjab State Farmers and Farm Workers' Welfare Commission, in an interview with NewsClick.
