Students, youth and women organisations, and various political parties, except the ruling AIADMK, have been protesting across Tamil Nadu against the sexual assault and extortion case in Pollachi in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore district. Even though protests had been going on in certain pockets for more than a week, they have intensified and spread across the state in the last couple of days. A human chain was organised in Chennai.
