In the sixth segment of our series on lynching cases in Jharkhand, we take you to Rahmania Mohalla at Haldipokhar in East Singhbhum district. Sheikh Halim (28), Sajjad alias Sajju (25), and Siraj Khan (26) of Haldipokhar, and Sheikh Naim (35) of Phulpal, all in Ghatshila subdivision of the district, were beaten to death in neighbouring Seraikela Kharsawan district on May 18, 2017 on the suspicion of being child lifters.

Naim was lynched in Shobhapur village while Sajju and Siraj were chased and killed in nearby Padnamsai. Halim faced mob wrath near Dangodungri forest.

The Seraikela-Kharsawan district court on July 16 held 12 people guilty of the crime, and gave a sentence of four years of rigorous imprisonment for obstructing and attacking a police team trying to save four men they allegedly lynched in the district.

The family of the four is completely devastated, with their young children struggling to get proper education and basic amenities. We spoke to two of the four families, asking them how brutal incident changed their lives, and enquired about the status of their legal battle.
