Syria's Complex Chessboard and its Continuing Tragedy

Interview with Vijay Prashad
08 Jul 2016
Interviewed by Prabir Purkayastha

Vijay Prashad discusses how the various warring forces in Syria are locked together in a complicated way. The Kurdish forces, along with the largely Arab Syrian Democratic Front (SDF) are fighting ISIS to link the Rojava cantons. They are being backed by the US and the French special forces. At the same time, the US wants to protect its allies that are a part of al Qaeda's coalition in Syria from the Assad government-Russian forces. Meanwhile, Syria continues to bleed, with no immediate end in sight.
