The principal opposition party AIADMK, led by party chief Palaniswami, took out a rally in Chennai on Monday against the DMK regime over issues such as the recent hooch tragedy, demanding appropriate action.

CORRUPTION CHARGES AGAINST EX-MINISTERS

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Monday filed a chargesheet against former higher education minister KP Anbalagan and his family members in connection with a disproportionate assets case registered for allegedly amassing illicit wealth to the tune of Rs 11.32 crore on January 19, 2022.

A chargesheet against former health minister C Vijayabaskar and his wife Ramya was filed on Monday before the Court of Special Judge/Chief Judicial Magistrate Pudukottal under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. It refers to the case of allegedly amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 27.22 crore, registered on October 17, 2021.

IT SLEUTHS MANHANDLED

Income Tax officials faced a hostile reaction from alleged supporters of Tamil Nadu Minister for Electricity, Excise and Prohibition V Senthilbalaji on Friday, when they reached the premises of his brother V Ashok Kumar’s house and his acquaintances in Karur district to conduct searches. Some officials were allegedly manhandled and a vehicle was vandalised.

Around 40 premises linked to Balaji and his brother Ashok are under inspection.

Cases were filed under five sections against DMK cadres for obstructing an officer from performing his duty and damaging property.

AMUL-AAVIN DEBATE

Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Union aka Aavin is losing its monopoly in daily milk procurement with Gujarat’s Amul already establishing a plant in Chittoor in AP and milk procured in Vellore district being routed there, informed sources said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking his directions to stop Amul from procuring milk from the milk shed of state cooperative, Aavin, with immediate effect.
