The H D Kumaraswamy-led Congress-JD(S) government fell after the vote of confidence in Karnataka Assembly on Tuesday. The coalition could secure only 99 votes, while the opposition received 105 votes. Most likely, BJP will soon form the government in the state. Now, even in the states like Goa, BJP is looking at ways to attain majority in order to form the government – even though the anti-defection law is in place to prevent this. We need to ask then: is an amendment to this law necessary? Another question that begs an answer is if the next target of the saffron party is Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan. Answers senior journalist Urmilesh.
