YS Vivekananda Reddy’s Murder: Conspiracy Theories Amid ‘Politics’ Over Death

At least five conspiracy theories have emerged over the death of the former MP, as TDP and YSR Congress supporters have sprung at the opportunity to gain political mileage ahead of Lok Sabha elections.

The mysterious death of YSR Congress Party leader YS Vivekananda Reddy in the wee hours of Friday, March 15, has become a matter of conflict between the ruling Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress, whose leaders are accusing each other for politicising the death.

Former MP from Kadapa, Vivekananda Reddy, 69, was the younger brother of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajashekar Reddy and uncle of YSR Congress founder leader, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He was found dead at his residence in Pulivendula in Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh.

As per the state police officials’ media briefings, their preliminary investigation revealed that Vivekananda was murdered and the post-mortem examination found seven deep injuries on several parts of his body including head, all caused by a sharp weapon.

While the state government has set up a Special Investigative Team to probe the murder, Jagan Mohan Reddy has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the matter, claiming that his family has no trust in the state police.

A politician with a background of factional politics was murdered and the police began its probe. But now, with the Lok Sabha elections around the corner, it has become an issue for gaining political mileage for both the ruling and opposition parties.

Jagan alleged that the TDP was behind his uncle’s murder. “When my grandfather Y S Raja Reddy was murdered, TDP was in power. When there was an attempt on my life at Vizag airport, TDP was in power and when this murder happened, TDP was again in power,” he said.

He even alleged that CM Chandrababu Naidu had a role in his father’s death. “Two days before the helicopter crash in which my father Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy died, Chandrababu Naidu told the assembly that you (YSR) will not return and his remarks were boldly published in the media,” claimed Jagan to the media in Pulivendula yesterday.

Refuting the accusations, CM Naidu called for a press conference yesterday night. He accused that Jagan’s family tried to wipe out few evidences from the incident site, misled the media and did not cooperate with the police officials probing the murder. Naidu alleged that Jagan’s demand for a CBI probe is part of his attempt to make a pact with the BJP-led central government and ‘cover’ the truth in the matter.

Meanwhile, at least five conspiracy theories have emerged over the death of the former MP. TDP supporters and YSR Congress supporters missed no time to circulate misleading theories which are in favour of their respective parties.

Speaking to NewsClick, CPI(M) state leader Babu Rao said that the two parties—YSR Congress and TDP—have worsened the politics in the state. He added that the two parties have “manufactured a terrific culture in politics lowering the people’s faith in democracy.”

A simple social media search of YS Vivekananda Reddy would show the bizarre accusations between the rival parties.
