In his last interview to Newsclick, the Sahitya Akademi award-winning  poet laments the corruption and contaminaton of Hindi language. He expressed his angst against fascism, intolerance and extremism and returned the Sahitya Akademi award in 2015, deeply disturbed by the lynching of Mohd Akhlaq in Dadri by a Hindutva mob. Dabral succumbed to COVID-19 and passed away on December 9 at the age of 72.
