More than 54,000 people have been evicted across 22 states during the COVID-19 pandemic in India, according to a finding by the Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN).

More than 54,000 people have been evicted across 22 states during the COVID-19 pandemic in India, according to a finding by the Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN). The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, in the name of the city's development, recently displaced around 450 people out of their homes and resettled them 40 km away from their earlier habitat. Some of the residents protested against the eviction by submerging themself in the drainage nearby. NewsClick takes a look at their situation and their worries..
